In this article, I will guide you on how you can go about cleaning your glass windows for the best and most efficient results. It is inclined to those who have little experience in this exercise but would want to accumulate the skills and knowledge needed to produce a perfect clean.
The problem attributed to spray bottles and rags
This may come to you as a surprise, but you should understand that glass is porous. This means that if a little moisture is left on a glass material, there is a good chance that it will be absorbed into the inner surface.
A glass surface is smooth to the naked eye. However, using a microscope, this isn’t the case – it has many rough edges, visible crevices, and crenulations. The significance of this is that, when you clean a glass surface using a rag, instead of drying it, you are making it wetter. Certainly, you will be leaving behind the cleaning chemical and a considerable amount of moisture. The above may not be visible in a diminished light zone but laying glass on a straight sunlight path may show a smeary glass surface.
Importance of using a right solution
Mixing dishwashing solution in water is a very common practice. However, getting the right and desired mixture ratio is utterly important. You will only need a drop or two of dishwashing solution in water otherwise you will end up with suds, which may leave behind a film on the rough edges of your glass window.
How to effectively scrub glass
Scrubbing glass windows is done to remove stuck sap, pest residues, sticky tape or salt deposits. However, this should be done in a manner that you won’t scratch your windows. This, therefore, calls for having the right equipment and technique. The scraper is one of those tools. A scraper should be wet at all times and scraping should be done towards one direction. If dry or scraped back and forth, scratching the glass is a big possibility.
How to squeegee glass
This technique is good for those who haven’t cleaned glass before. Just ensure that you don’t grip the squeegee too firm. Loosen up and glide it smoothly and gently.
You will need a towel, a sponge, bucket of water and soap saturation for normal cleaning. After the normal cleaning, wipe the top edge and the corners of the glass using a rag. Place the squeegee blade at the top edge and maintain a 30-degree angle from the glass. While keeping the corner edge in line with the downward frame, just pull down the window to the bottom edge.
Then clean the squeegee and repeat the process again until the window is sparkling clean.
